Two Down, Two to Go

On Saturday, Cakes and I agreed she had finally given up her thumb sucking habit and was ready for pierced ears. She refused to talk to anyone at the store during the piercing, but she was clearly proud of herself when we left. She made me pull her hair back with barrettes this morning so she could easily show off her new earrings to her classmates.
Sue Sue is a tad disappointed. When I took the "sock mittens" off everyone's hands, she sucked her thumb in her sleep without even knowing it. She is really trying and has at least beat her daytime sucking habit.
Tortilla readily admits she's not ready to give up the sock mittens. When she's upset, she tells me "I really want to suck my thumb." I appreciate the fact, though, that she's aware enough to NOT do it.
Two down, two to go. I'm happy with the progress!

That's very sweet! Good for her. =)
I can't believe we still have to go through the hell of taking the girls paci's from them at bedtime. I'm dreading it.

That's great news! And it sounds like your other two girls are making good progress, too. How mature of Tortilla to recognize and say that she really wants to suck her thumb.

I still love the idea of your girls getting their ears pierced being something for "big girls", and "big girls" don't suck their thumbs. I have a friend who did something similar with watching TV. She used that as the reward for her son being potty-trained, telling him that "big kids" get to watch cartoons.

I don't know when I'll need to employ a "big kid" reward, but I like those in that they seem logical.

It does sound like great progress! Hopefully it won't be too much longer before Sue Sue and Tortilla are able to kick the habit too.
