Getting Back to Me

It's easy to put everyone ahead of yourself, especially when you're a mom. After I'm done juggling work, preschool, appointments and the day-to-day business of raising quadruplets, I'm exhausted. I haven't been taking care of myself, either. For awhile, I was really good about getting some exercise. I felt good. Then I missed a workout... and then a few more... and suddenly, I've been feeling UGH.
So, this Mother's Day, I made a promise to myself. I'm going to do a better job of taking care of myself. I'm going to exercise more. I'm going to eat better... and when I don't, I'm not going to beat myself up over it.
To this end, I've begun the Couch to 5K program. Yesterday was my first workout. It was manageable and I felt like I accomplished something. I haven't run in years. The goal of the program is to be able to run a 5K (or three miles) at the end of eight weeks. It's a combination of jogging and walking and it's suggested you only do it three times a week. I can commit to that. Having one workout under my belt, I already feel good and I'm ready for the next one. Wish me luck.

Good luck with the Couch to 5K program. I know a few other moms who have done it or who are doing it now, and it sounds like a great way to add some structured workouts into the balance of things. It is so hard to find time when you're a mom busy with young kids, but like you said, I do feel so much better when I find time to work out and take care of myself.

I like the program since it's not ALL running and is more of a walking/jogging interval program... until you reach the 5K level, of course.

Way to go! I know that I started feeling like I'd come to the end of my rope a couple of months ago—I just felt exhausted, out of shape, plain jane. Must be the change in seasons or something. I started exercising and feel so much more energized, which has motivated me to get my hair cut and start putting a little more thought into how I look.

I need to take time to get back in shape, too. Your Couch to 5K program sounds good - I like the interval walking/jogging idea. Now to find time to do it when someone else can watch the kids - early morning would do it, but I feel so sleep-deprived already...

Fortunately, Hubby is home most mornings, so I can do it then... it's only 25 minutes... but that's a precious amount of time when you're juggling children.

Someone mentioned the program on Facebook when another friend asked about getting into running. I Googled it and... voila! It's laid out in an easy to read manner.
