This time of year can be frustrating when it comes to dressing my daughters. For example, today is expected to be in the mid-80's, but right now, as they get ready for school, it's only 50 degrees. Shorts? Pants? Jackets?
Layers are probably my best bet, but you try sending a bunch of preschoolers with clothes they need to keep track of and see how much actually makes it home. This morning they'll be going in light jackets. I figure they'll need the jackets when they're dropped off at school because they have to stand outside to wait for their classmates. By the end of the day, those jackets will likely be shoved in their backpacks, which is fine. Recess could be tricky. It might be really warm by then. Hopefully they'll be able to figure out if jackets are necessary.
I need to invest in more leggings. They're lighter than jeans, but offer a little more warmth than shorts. My daughters think leggings and baby doll shirts are the best outfits ever, because then they feel like they're wearing dresses.
The rest of the week is supposed to be warmer, so I'm hoping that applies to the morning hours, too. Either way, there's no snow on the ground (yet), so I guess I should just be happy!

I'm not looking forward to the cooler weather here - so far we're fine because the humidity keeps it from cooling down much at night. Emma HATES wearing warm clothes, but so far the other two are decently flexible. Here's hoping the flexibility lasts!
I love cold weather. :) I probably won't like it as much when I have to send mine to school though!
It's not necessarily the cold weather that frustrates me... it's more of this "in between" weather that makes dressing a chore!
I love my girls in leggings, too - they like them because they're more comfortable than wearing jeans. I know what you mean about the layers - someone told me to do that last year and all I could think about was what clothing was going to be left behind!
I love fall weather, but it's definitely a season that requires layering. We had a similar type of day here. Very cool this morning, but hot by this afternoon. I chose just one outfit of shorts and t-shirts for both, but we didn't leave the house until 9:30, and by then it was warm enough that we didn't need jackets.
Unfortunately, this problem doesn't go away as the girls get older. I still have to mark the names of my 10- and 12-year-olds on everything and make regular visits to the lost and found at school to find missing items. There are some things (like a brand new winter coat last year) that we never find. Did someone steal it? Was it left behind at a friend's house? The mystery remains . . .
