I think I finally understand why some parents can't wait for summer break to be over. We are constantly on the go. Whether it's swim lessons, recreational swimming or day trips, we rarely have a day when we simply stay at home. The only thing that has slowed us down is Tortilla's two ear infections within three weeks of one another (different ears).
In past summers my girls and I spent a lot of time at the pool. This year is a little different. We still head to the pool quite often, but I'm trying to find other things to do. I want to take advantage of having kids who are ready for adventures. We've visited new parks, gone to some of the local tourist destinations and spent plenty of time at the zoo. I've already used an entire bottle of sun screen keeping everyone protected this summer.
We're having a good time. I'll miss this when we're buried in snow this winter! What about you? Are you finding time to enjoy summer, too?

I suppose so. :) I'm not a huge summer person. There is just to much work involved going places, pools, and all that crap. Maybe once the girls are a little older, and I don't have so much to gather and worry about? IDK...I love fall. :)
My hubby is a teacher, so he's been home for summer vacation the past 3 or 4 weeks. He's been knee-deep in World Cup soccer, though, so I haven't been able to take advantage of the extra set of hands just yet. I just realized he only has 5 more weeks before school starts back (!!!), so we'd better get rolling! We're heading to a nearby zoo on Wednesday that has an Australian theme. I think our girls - 18 months old - will really enjoy it. Now I've gotta get busy and get a few more things lined up before August gets here all too fast.
I think this is the first summer where I've really been excited to go places with my girls. They can walk, I don't need to lug diapers... all in all, it's a pleasant experience.
I pick up extra tutoring hours in the summer, and so far this summer has been crazy busy. I'm juggling the kids' playgroup, playdates, and activities along with everything I need to do to prepare individual lessons. Then there's the housework, the gym, and blogging. I feel busier than ever. Hubby (also a teacher) is home to help out, but so far I'm not feeling much relief. Even though he's helping out, there's just so much to do that it never seems to slow down.
But it is fun. We've been to the zoo, some local farms, gone to some activities in town. We've also had to restock the sunscreen, but I suppose that just confirms that we're out there enjoying the summer as only a family with young kids can. :o)
I'm finding summer really busy also! We have speech therapy and two playgroups per week - one centered around French and another on science. And I'm trying to get the kids outdoors as much as possible, contemplating a zoo membership (particularly since it's on the way to our very-far-away speech therapy)...
Our zoo membership has been well worth it. It's nice to be able to go for as long (or as little) as we want whenever we want.
