Black Friday

I try to do my Christmas shopping throughout the year. I look at clearance aisles all year long and hope to find great bargains. Why? Because I can't make myself rise long before the sun to stand in line and run like a madwoman through a store on Black Friday.
When I was younger, my mom, grandma and I would go shopping the day after Thanksgiving, but never right when the store opened. We never had specific items on our list, we just looked at whatever struck our fancy.
These days, due to my part-time retail job, I'm usually one of the harried cashiers trying to move the lines along as fast as I can. Surprisingly, most people who shop today are in a good mood... no matter how early they woke up. Oh, sure, you still have the crankopotamus or two, but in general, most shoppers are happy to be cashing in on good deals.
Now that I'm shopping for four children, though, I'm starting to reconsider my no shopping on Black Friday. Every penny saved helps. So... for those of you who shopped today... delight me with your deals and make me jealous. Was it worth it?

I went to Kohls this morning because it was my chance to shop without kids. They run so many sales year-round that it wasn't very crowded. I bought jeans and a couple of long-sleeved shirts, all on sale but nothing really amazing. I did see lots of people buying KitchenAid stand mixers, so they must have had a good deal on those?

Not sure about the mixers, but I know the picture frame jewelry boxes were gone the minute our store opened. It's always fun to see what the "must have item" is each year!

Not sure why I went..But I braved it and was shocked that at 4am the parking lot was full. Babies woke up at 3:20 for a bottle (not usual) so I didn't need an alarm clock. Got my 10yr old DD up and away we went with a bag of cereal and a bottle of water. I had a few visa gc and what I got back in Kohls cash..I got over $300 worth of clothes for $30 out of pocket. All things that were on our Christmas list, but it seems like we have so much more to do. Although the line was over an hour long, it was worth it. Panera was open for hot cocoa, a warm seat by the fire and precious moments with my oldest daughter!

I think I will brave the crowds when my daughters are older just for the bonding experience. I ran into some adult women with their moms who started shopping at 4am and were still at it at 7pm... and still in good spirits. That's dedication!

I wanted to go so badly so I could get some deals but I just couldn't do it. I hate crowds, I just knew I would be tired and cranky and it wouldn't be worth it. Ah well...

I really don't like shopping. I want to go in the store, buy from my list and leave.

No, totally not worth it for me. I hit Target, Boston Store and Ace Hardware, and just about everything I was looking for was already sold out - very disappointing.

That stinks! I had a friend who waited outside Target for a TV and they were sold out within minutes. Needless to say she was not one of the lucky ones.
