Giveaway: In Stitches, A Memoir

I am a self-proclaimed bookworm. While it is easy for me to veg out on the couch at night in front of the TV, I would much rather read a book. When my daughters were born, reading had to be put aside. Now that they're older, I try to read more often. I'm always looking for a good book and I was excited to be asked to review and host a giveaway for In Stitches: A Memoir by Anthony Youn, MD with Alan Eistenstock.
I have to confess, I am a huge fan of Nip/Tuck, so I was expecting all sorts of juicy stories about bizarre plastic surgery cases. Instead, what I found was an intriguing and often touching recounting of Youn's journey to become a doctor.
Youn, who makes frequent appearances on The Rachael Ray Show and The CBS Early Show, has a wonderful outlook on life... and himself. He's not afraid to describe himself as a nerd or recount the seemingly endless number of women who turn him down. While many parts made me laugh, there were a few parts of this book that made me tear up.
From birth, Youn knew he would be a doctor. The day his parents bring him home from the hospital his father says he will be a doctor... and that's the end of the discussion. Youn has moments when he questions whether this is what he really wants to do. The incident that confirms his passion to become a doctor, specifically a plastic surgeon, is one that will likely stick with you long after you're done with this book.

I'm reading "The Gifts of Imperfection" by Brene Brown, and I really like it so far. I am not a bookworm, and I only read about one page a day, unfortunately... But this book sounds interesting, and I would like to read it one page a day as well =)

Sounds like a great read! I'm currently reading "Cinderella Ate My Daughter" by Peggy Orenstein. It's a really interesting read about the "princess culture" that is so prevalent today.

I actually read a lot when our girls were tiny...as soon as I learned to pump and balance a book...HA! Then I was out of the reading loop for probably a year, and I missed it so much. I'm making reading more of a priority these days, and it's wonderful...it definitely makes me feel like "me" to do so.
