This past weekend was my semi-annual moms of multiples club sale. One of the items someone was selling was a Step 2 kitchen. You know... the really nice, really expensive one? Anyway, one mom wondered aloud if it was an appropriate toy for her son. All of us immediately responded with a "YES!" How in the world can a play kitchen be only for girls?
The majority of our imaginary play happens at our play kitchen. Yesterday, for example, I was served strawberry juice (the play strawberry was in the cup), doughnut soup and an egg. Yummy, right? Oh, and I can't forget the tea I was served in a princess cup. I was stuffed after my pretend meal.
Not only do we have the play kitchen, but we have the obligatory gigantic bag of play food to go with it. The food cracks me up. There are the standards: spaghetti, peas, bread. But some of the food has me scratching my head: soy sauce, sushi, asparagus. (Side note: many of you own this exact same bag of food. Toss the sushi unless you want to constantly be telling your children not to put it in their mouths. It's small, it's dangerous). There is one item in this bag that I have no idea what it is. It's three brown cubes stacked together. I'm at a loss. Anyone? Yesterday one of the girls served it to me on a plate. Then she asked me "what's that?" I couldn't even make something up.
The day my daughters stop using the play kitchen will be a sad day. Who else would think to serve me a raspberry tart in the middle of the afternoon? I eat well... even if it's all pretend.

Hi! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and being a follower! I love hearing from new people, especially fellow MoMs. :)
I love that my girls play with their kitchen, too. (We have a lot of play food, but the three cubes don't sound familiar to me - sorry!) My girls love to put their little bowls all over the table, fill them up with food, and pretend to feed it to their Fisher Price Little People.
I agree that when they stop playing with their kitchen I'll be sad - but I'm glad that it doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon!
Love your blog - I'll definitely be back. (PS - I loved "She's Like the Wind" too!)
I'm hoping my daughters are still playing with their kitchen in high school. Just kidding... sort of.
Tofu maybe?
My son and daughter use our play kitchen about equally, and it's definitely a favorite toy in our house.
Could those three brown cubes be brownies? Sugar cubes?
We bought our play kitchen for our son, but my baby girl has taken to playing with it, too.
On the three cubes, could they be bouillon?
They're definitely not brownies. Sugar cubes? Hmmm... not that color. Bouillon? Maybe.... I think that's the best guess so far.
We started our Christmas shopping last weekend and the first thing I picked up for Corbin, who will be 2 in November, was a Little Tikes Chef's Kitchen. It's blue and white, and I know he will have so much fun with it. The greatest part was that my husband was all for it!
Oh, Janel, I'm not a big tofu eater, so who knows?
Our kitchen is a Fisher Price one. I like it because it's adjustable. You can have it at a "lower" setting for little kids and then raise it as they grow. The downside... some of the functions are specific to each setting, which is a tad disappointing... but who cares? They really like it!
Play kitchens are the best! Ryla loves to make all kinds of soup for us. She is very creative in her types of soup. One of my good fiends has a boy Ryla's age and when he comes to visit he always go straight for the kitchen.
About the cubes...I have no idea but what about chocolate?
No, tofu is white. I thought of bouillon right away, so that's my guess.
And my two boys love playing with our toy kitchen. I've never thought of it as a "girl toy."
Definitely not chocolate... sounds like bouillon may be the best bet.
