It's an Emergency!!!!

There are a few things I do which inevitably mean one of my daughters will need my immediate attention. This tends to include:
  • Talking on the phone (I've been known to hide on the steps, in the bathroom or in the laundry room for important conversations so the caller doesn't hear "Mom! Mom! MOOOOOOOM!" the whole time)
  • Going to the bathroom (Just this morning Roo felt it was a dire emergency. I opened the door mid-"business" to find out that she wanted to watch TV.)
  • Eating lunch (I have no idea what it is about my need for food, but the second I sit down, mid-bite, I am surrounded by little girls who want dolls dressed, barrettes put back in their hair or absolutely need me to read a book to them right this very minute)

It only gets worse with age too. Come jr. high and high school those "emergencies" send you running out of the house with things like I forgot my lunch, practice is out early can you come get me now, and I need poster board for school tomorrow.

Like yours, they tend to inevitably happen right when you just filled the bath tub, changed into our pj's, or started cooking dinner.

Hi there, my name is Corinne and saw your site thru multiples and more. After reading this post and having witnessed it myself in my friends children, I'm not looking forward to this stage and when they do this.

Most of the time it's funny... for instance I was interrupted on the phone the other day by a frantic four-year-old. She needed to tell me there was a bunny in the yard.

Funny - the exact same thing happens at my house! The phone seems to cause sibling conflict - they'll be playing peacefully, I'll dial a number, and they are fighting about something by the time someone picks up on the other end.

I SOOO hear ya. Especially with the phone. I don't even try to make a stray work phone call here or there anymore, because I know it will be interupted with screaming, crying or the dreaded silence that means they're REALLY up to no good!

I hear you! With the phone, I can be on hold for hours and they don't need anything, as soon as I have a live agent, they start needing things done right away or they start fighting. And what is with the bathroom? Why oh why must they always come with me? Whenever my oldest asks me what I do when they are gone, I tell her the first thing I do is go up to the bathroom just so I can go by myself without an audience. :)
